Would be great if the default behaviour was to maintain aspect ratio while DragClicking the green square of an image!

It works - as you expected - in the LibreOffice Writer.

Excellent. I've switched to LibreOffice.

It is not too difficult to use the SHIFT-drag function in the AOO.

For me it symbolises actually caring for the user experience.
Switching to LO!
Just tried opening my AOO docs in LO, everything seems fine.

Be aware that the de-facto standard is to do what AOO does.

Every other graphics program I have ever used, from IrfanView to Paint.net to GIMP (and no doubt PhotoShop); and every CAD system I have used from TurboCAD to DoubleCAD (and no doubt AutoCAD) works like AOO where a simple drag does what it says; and a SHIFT+drag does something special: it forces the aspect ratio to remain the same, forces lines to be at 45 deg or 90 deg, forces a square instead of a rectangle and forces a circle instead of an ellipse etc. You may well get very confused if using other software as well as LO.
