Proposed change to the Side Bar appearance

Post by FJCC »

A patch has been submitted on Bugzilla to modify the look of the side bar. A pair of before and after images can be seen at https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=125989. Regina Henschel is asking for feedback in a message on the dev list posted 19 hours ago.

Bumping the topic with the screenshots for direct comparison:

The proposed version is more clean IMHO.
It may also lessen the issues with themes.

I think it does look cleaner, and more consistent with the rest of OOo and desktop standards.

However I think this is fiddling round the edges of the issue, which is that the sidebar needs a radical overhaul of both its appearance and functionality.

I’ve always disliked those custom-drawn strips behind some buttons, because they wouldn’t fit with any DE or theme. They made sense in Symphony, as part of the whole look of that app, but in AOO they just don’t fit. IMHO, good to see them go.
