Sometimes a document is Read Only for good reasons.
Sometimes a document is Read Only accidentally.
There is a prompt in Writer when the document can not be edited, which reads:
"Read-only content cannot be changed.
No modifications will be accepted."
It would be extremely handy if there was either a help button on that dialog or even additional text that is conditional on why the warning was shown.
A "section" can be protected. Turning that off is done from the "Format / Section" dialog (the "Protected" checkbox)
The Document can be protected. Turning that off is done via the "File / Properties" dialog.
The file system read / write or network access permissions may be the culprit.
If an OpenOffice application knows whether any or all of the above are affecting the editable status of the file, it would be helpful if the reason(s) why the text is read-only would be explained, and even more helpful if the above information about where to disable read-only protections can be found in the app.
