OpenOffice 3.1 on Windows Vista / NeoOffice 2.2.3 with MacOS 10.4 / OpenOffice 2.4 on Ubuntu 9.04

Why do they do that? Are they paid for sabotage?

Funny, I was checking the account right at the moment too!

For the moment, nothing to say but someone to monitor.
I also think that he's preparing his posts to be edited later.

None of my business I know but I wouldn't wait.

I used to wait on these guys; I thought we decided to remove such junk posts?

Recently, I've just deleted them (probably no more than 2-3). So far, no one's come back to complain.

Well, I don't remember and I admit that I don't have the courage to dig the topics about spam...
No problem if they are removed right now.

I remember we discussed the users who post one-liners ("thanks!" or "I also found this helpful"). We decided such posts could be removed since they were off-topic and lowered the signal-to-noise.

I don't always remove them, but when I see that someone has a history of several such posts and nothing else, I take it as evidence of bad faith and remove them all and ban the user.

If someone complains, we can take some corrective action.

I note the above complained of user is still posting one-liners. I'd leave him alone for the present - I think he's probling to see if rights change at a certain count. Let's just keep an eye on him; his .sig suggests he is a spammer.

Lol, I fell for one of hit attempts. OOo version 2.4 and an outdated Linux version for a new user - let's ban him.

I gather there's some doubt about his intentions. What about a halfway house of some kind? Or raising the post limit for NRU? Genuine posters can always be transferred from NRU to 'members' or whatever the standard group is.

Perhaps I can suggest that no one is worth so much personal attention. Fish with nets, not with hooks.

EDIT: There may be a tango going on between that individual and (an) other/s: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... hp?t=49183

if he is a spammer, do you really want him reading about your thoughts on how catch / block him? There is a fine line between allowing /encouraging user participation and giving away all your secrets (not that I claim to know where that line lays!)
Thanks for all your efforts to clear out the pests - seems a bit like running up a waterfall :-)

If he reads this, he knows that there is no point trying to add spam, he will be defeated anyway, sooner or later.

The process is rather secure now so even if they know how we work, it would require too much energy to get some spam links to be worth it.

Especially if they're spamming for short term things like football matches.
