[Solved] Dangerous? Do we need to do something?
[Solved] Dangerous? Do we need to do something?
See: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 16#p212816
Even though we warn users that everything here is "at your own risk", I feel uneasy about leaving posts like this.
It certainly could be legitimate, but there is absolutely no way that I would trust my system to run some unknown, system-patching software from some unknown web site.
Any ideas how to evaluate the situation? The web site it links to looks ok, but it still seems suspicious to me--it looks too nice
Should we remove the post? It doesn't look to be spam, as such.
Add a warning message?

Re: Dangerous? Do we need to do something?
I've reported posts like this before. I believe they are just spam quite frankly.

I've had a look again. The information given is OK, as far as I know, but the link at the bottom of the referenced page is to commercial software. Delete the posting!

The language of the last post sets off my spam alarm.
I also notice that the signatures of the last two posts show they use Office 2007 and Office 2010. They just happened to stop by an OpenOffice.org forum and posted these helpful messages? Ok, thanks for taking a look. Someone's moved it to the "deleted" area now.

+1. I've deleted some of them already and banned OP (I've banned this OP right now too, was already in the deleted area BTW).
I had the same feeling than acknak at the beginning when they first appeared but there has been a bunch of identical posts that rang the spam bell...

A good decision. Obviously spam, supported by the presence of an identical post on the old forum
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic ... 109#459109
except for the error number.

In all cases the referenced link led to a commercial system recovery tool, the same tool in all cases.
