[Solved] Corrupted file SAXParseException

Post by Luciano »

Hello Rory, Hello everyone,
(sorry for my english mistakes)

I've read through the forum here and everywhere, having a similar problem as others here - getting the error "SAXParseException: '[word/document.xml line 2]: Attribute w:eastAsiaTheme redefined
', Stream 'word/document.xml', Line 2, Column 233645".

Now I know I’ve made the mistake to save a file in docx with Libre Office 5 (I’ll never do that again!). I’ve been working in that file for months and even my Dropbox backup’s got corrupted too (right after the original! - I don’t beleave that!). I’ve tried to repair the file using the methods described in this forum without success. The AOO method’s recovered the first 6 pages of the document but it’s more than 15 long.

I think the solution has to do with some manual editing of the file and I don’t have even the basic knowledge to do it.

Can anybody help me and save my last months, please?

Thank you sooo much!

Luciano Santana (from Brazil)

I've managed to recover 21 pages - please check it and see if it is as you expect.

There were a significant number of errors in the file.
Edit: If you wish the repaired files removed from the forum once you have downloaded them, please let us know

Please make daily backups. This is essential for any work of major importance.

Thanks, Rory. In fact, everytime I worked in that file I did a backup in Dropbox. I got very surprised (and disappointed) when I tried to open my Dropbox back up file and saw that previous version was also corrupted. It seems Libre Office's done a link between both files, corrupting the backup file as I tried to opened it (this is the only explanation that comes to my mind). But from now on, I won't work with doc and docx in LO and I'll diversify my back options. Thank you for your advice.

If you edit the same file many times it gets "tangled". Check by File > Properties > General ..., and see how many times it has been edited and how many hours it has been open.

You can remove the "tangles" and make the file more responsive by creating a new empty document and inserting the old file.

1. File > New > Text document
2. Insert > From file.

Now pull in the document and save the new file.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
