SAXParseException error message, can't open file

Post by jazzwheel »

Hi there. I'm new to LibreOffice, not code-savvy, and trying to open a document that I've opened, edited, and closed but cannot open again because of this error message:

File format error found at
: '[word/document.xml line 2]: Extra content at the end of the document
', Stream 'word/document.xml', Line 2, Column 321124(row,col).

I have read other questions on this site that suggest fixes, but it's really Greek to me and I cannot understand how to work this out.

I've uploaded an attachment of the file in question. Can anyone help me fix this so I can open the file again?

Thank you!

Try the attached file. After repair it passes XML verification, but I haven't attempted to open it.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I can open it only in Mac's TExtEdit program. When I try to open it in LibreOffice nothing happens!

Later: it opened correctly for me in OpenOffice 4.1.3. I cannot answer for LibreOffice as I don't use it.

None of my docs will open, not even ones from days ago. I get no error messages.

Try starting TaskManager (Ctrl Shift Esc) and kill all soffice processes shown on TM's Details tab (Processes tab on Windows earlier than Win 10).

If that is he case, you need to reconsider how you close down your computer. You should formally close OpenOffice/LibreOffice (/File /Exit) and then use the formal powerdown or sleep/hibernate procedure to close down your computer; wait a few seconds - 10 ought be enough - for all disk activity to cease before powering off or closing the lid. The soffice processes you discovered are left after over-hasty power off of your computer, before the internal housekeeping has been written to disk from the buffers.
