[Solved] LibreOffice File format error found at SAXParse

Post by rubina2712 »

Hi,

Please can you help me? I have an assignment done on LibreOffice writer, which was saved on my memory stick as docx. Today I tried to open it and it came with this error
SAXParseException: '[word/document.xml line 2]: Opening and ending tag mismatch: txbxContent line 0 and sdtContent
', Stream 'word/document.xml', Line 2, Column 5563(row,col).

I don't know what to do, how to fix it. I have to hand in this work by this Friday but now I am screwed destined to fail if there is no way around it.

I would be the most grateful if there anything to help... Please

Hana

Hi thank you for the response. I looked on the instructions but cannot do any of it. I cannot open it in archive manager because i dont have the option there on "open with". I could note find NotePad ++ in applications, tried to download XML editor but when tried to open it with it it came with error that it cannot be opened as it cannot be decoded......

I cannot even send it here for someone to help me fix it as the file is too big.

Is there anything else to do? Is there anywhere i could send it to to help me fix it?

You could upload the file to an online file sharing site, like Dropbox or Mediafire, then post a link to the uploaded file on this forum.
Please note that there are no guarantees that it can be fixed, or even looked at, by your Friday deadline.

The sooner the file is made available, as RusselB suggests, the sooner it can be examined`and (hopefully) fixed.

I have downloaded this file, but am getting nowhere. Other matters demand my concentration and immediate attention, so perhaps some other volunteer would have a look at the file and see if they have better success

Please also PM me with an email address and I'll sent my (successful, at last!) recovered version, in case it has content robleyd's version doesn't have.

RoryOF

Is it my memory failing, or is there a new structure for .docx files?

It is certainly a different structure than that of .doc files, but I have no knowledge of any changes (if there are any) between early and later .docx; I don't know or care - I only work in .odt.

I have sent what I managed to recover to the address you gave me. Hopefully it contains all your original document.

To try and avoid this error again, I suggest you save your document in ODF format - .odt - and only save as .docx when you have to pass it on in that format.

Recent versions of MS Office, since I think Office 2007, should be able to open .odt files.

I sent copies in both .docx and .odt, but did not inspect closely to ascertain if the file was complete; certainly there was sufficient of it to make any necessary rewrite a minor task. It is best to work in .odt format.

After a file with such an error has been repaired, it is _essential_ to check the file for correct content and formatting. In fixing such a file one often has to chop out bad formatting tags, which may affect the formatting; sometimes one has to remove larger sections, which may include text, to recover the file. Identifying and replacing any such missing text or formatting one leaves to the author.
