Apply a new Graphics Style in Impress

I've successfully created a new Graphics Style called "code" using the Styles and Formatting window.

I did this by selecting some text that looked the way I wanted and then creating a new style with the "new style from selection" icon in the Styles and Formatting window. The new style looks ok in that when I edit it, the edit dialog shows the right font, size, and colour.

But now how can I change existing text to use the new style or add new text in the new style?

I would have expected that selecting some text and then clicking or double-clicking on the word "code" in the styles and formatting window would do it.

If direct formatting has been applied to the text required to be converted to the new style, the direct formatting will take precedence. Clear the formatting by selecting that text and pressing Ctrl M, then you should be able to apply the new style by a double click in Styles and Formatting.

Cntl-m just replaced the text with an "m". Cmd-m minimized the window. Is there a way to do this with the menu or a shortcut that works on the Mac?

I did try Format >> Default Formatting . This did not help.

Another thing I tried is selecting my new style in the Styles and Formatting window and the clicking on the Fill Format button. This changed the mouse pointer to a paint bucket, but dragging that around did not change the appearance of my text. (This works in Writer, as does double clicking. It's just in Impress that I'm getting nowhere.)

Please upload your ODF type sample file with the created and applied styles here.

Thanks Zizi64. So, if I understand right, in Impress, the "graphics styles" can be applied to text boxes (and I suppose other graphical objects) but not to chunks of text within a text box or to chunks of text within ordinary paragraphs.

This is in contrast to Writer where we have "Character styles" that can be applied with more granularity.

As quick follow up: if I want an ordinary paragraph like this
The process pause(t) >> q, when run pauses t miliseconds and then executes process q.
Is there a reasonably easy way to apply styling to individual chunks of text?

In each case I want to change the font, font size, and font colour. It seems like the Format Paintbrush might be the least awkward way, but I'm hoping there is a better one.

Yes, you are right: there is not paragraph styles in the Impress application.

Tibor: thanks for all your help.

I'm not sure if this is solved or not. What I've learned is that what I wanted to do can't be done.
