Inserting a video into an Impress presentation

You can use the Media Player to preview media files by going Tools > Media Player > navigate to video files > Select a media file. If the format is not supported you will get an error message saying it is not supported. Google for methods of converting a format to a supported format.

AOO Tools > Media Player ...
If the media file format is not supported you will get an error message when you select it.
Not all formats are supported on all Operating Systems.

Searching Help with video says:

To insert a movie or sound file into your document
1. Click where you want to insert the file.
2. Choose Insert - Movie and Sound.
3. In the File Open dialogue box, select the file that you want to insert.
The file types that are listed in this dialogue box are not supported by all operating systems.
4. Click Open.
Alternatively, you can choose Tools - Media Player to open the Media Player. Use the Media Player to preview all supported media files. Click the Apply button in the Media Player window to insert the current media file into your document.

If you have an unsupported video format you want to insert, search Google with convert video for countless (there are 1.5 billion hits) methods of converting any video format into any other format.

Using a link to a video on your PC or on the internet

You can also insert a hyperlink in a presentation which points to a video file on your PC or on the internet. You play the video by clicking the link which opens your browser or your PC's video player and plays the video. The links work if you export the presentation to a PDF. See Re: Inserted video has wrong format which has these example files.

The links were inserted by Insert > Hyperlink ... You can edit a hyperlink by selecting the box in which it is contained and highlighting the text. Draw the mouse across the text and go Edit > Hyperlink. This re-opens the Hyperlink box and allows you to edit both the text and the path of the object. See Using hyperlinks in Chapter 3 of the Impress Manual or hyperlinks or links in Help.
