In the past, I have produced several presentations which incorporated callouts, and they worked perfectly. I haven't used this feature for a year or two. Now I need to insert a callout in a new presentation, and cannot do it. I have tried every possible icon and key combination that I can think of, but I can't insert a new callout. When I click on the callout arrow, I select the shape of callout I want, but the next move eludes me. How do I insert it into the slide? There is a panel on the right side of the screen, but all its fields are all obstinately greyed out.
Windows 10 Home with all the latest updates.

Draw a rectangle with the mouse.

As Villeroy says, after clicking on the callout icon, click and drag a rectangle with your mouse.
