Insert Movies/video in Ubuntu OpenOffice

I have found that OpenOffice works very well in LinuxMnt 17.3 but it does not work in LinusMint 18.x or recent Ubuntu versions with videos in impress. If the presentation is used on a LinuxMint 17.3 install it will work. It will not work on Ubuntu 17 04. With a new presentation on Ubuntu 17 04 a video cannot be inserted. The video formats can be inserted into Impress on LinuxMint 17.3. In the Ubuntu 17 04 install all the video files can be played by clicking on them, but they will not play in the Impress media player. A message that the media format is not supported is given instead. I suspect the something has changed in the Ubuntu versions or is no longer installed but I cannot determine what the cause is. Does anyone know about this problem and how to solve it?

I ran into this recently and used the work around of hyperlinking to the video file to cause it to play in a maximised media player window. My videos were of several minutes, so the clunkiness was acceptable. Remember that one can hyperlink to the video file, relying on the system to invoke the media player, or one can hyperlink to an instance of the media player with the video file on its command line and other optional parameters such as full screen, autoclose etc.

One needs to sit and work this out privately, keeping careful notes of settings as one makes changes until you arrive at a satisfactory setup.
