Impress Family Tree & then inport to Calc

Post by johnoo »

Want to consider using Impress & Calc to run a project.
I would like to construct a "Family Tree" in Impress & then import the activities to Calc
Questions:-
1 Is there a family Tree Template for Impress, I can't see one when opening Impress?
2 Assuming one is available would it be possible to import each of the activities into Calc?
Best Regards

Why are you wanting to import in to Calc?
Calc is meant for mathematics (eg: a budget)

As to a template for a family tree already existing, you should check the extensions site at http://extensions.openoffice.org
This is the official repository for Open Office extensions.

There's no way of knowing if the activities could be imported into Calc, as the template (if one exists) may have commands built in that may allow (or even disallow) what you're asking for.

There is a family tree template for Calc: http://templates.openoffice.org/en/temp ... e-template. I have never used it.

Turning raw data into a presentation makes sense, but the other way round?
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Well from the answers so far it looks as if you can't turn an Impress "Family Tree" into a line by line activity plan in Calc.
The fact is that Calc, or any spreadsheet may be used for mathematical tasks, but it can also be used the monitor actions against a set of input activities.
The idea was to import all of the individual activities of a project, setting fields for responsibility/budget/expected completion date etc., & then use this document as the control.
But as this can't be done, ie Impress to Calc automatically I will input line by line.
Thanks for the comments given

Why don't you use a project management software like OpenProj?

When I had to draw a family tree (some years ago) I used (I think) Family Tree Builder, which was quite satisfactory for my needs.
