Constant Crashes when working with Animations

Post by Muentzer »

This is a problem I have since I upgraded to 4.1.2.
Every time (!) I am working on a presentation, the whole thing crashes when I try to work with effects and animations. I CAN create animations for my slides. But the very moment I try to change, delete, regroup or whatever there, it crashes. This makes working with animated slides literally impossible. :knock:

even downgrading to 4.1.1 or 4.1.0 did not help (and I can't downgrading any further).

Have you tried the LibreOffice?

What fileformat are you using? (the native ODF (.odp), or a foreign - for example MS binary .ppt fileformat?)

Hi Tibor,

no, didn't try LibreOffice. Are the files fully compatible? Yes, it is a native odp-file. I start the file, start filling the slides, adding effects... and everything works up to the moment I want to CHANGE one of the effects or animations.

Basically: yes, but you can try it. On my Windows 7 I can install both of the AOO and LO (and they can run) in same time.

Or you can upload an example .odp file here (with some instructions: what, and how you tried to change...), then we will able to try it on various versions of the AOO or LO, and operating systems.

What you should do, before anything else, is delete or rename your OpenOffice user profile. Details are given in

Same with LibO: Load on odp-file, try to change an animation ... CRASH

If you were using Windows I'd recommend starting in Safe Mode, but I don't know if there is such a mode on a Mac. On Windows, Safe Mode cut out interference from other programs or drivers.

of course there is a safe mode in MacOS (pressing the upper case key during start up). And guess what: OO works in safe mode flawlessly...
but: what I am going to do now?

I didn't know that - 37 years since I touched an Apple computer! It working in Safe Mode tells you the problem is caused by some driver or program that runs in normal mode. You have to look at what is running in Normal mode and one by one disable these until you find the culprit. Obvious candidates are antivirus checkers, firewalls, continuous backup utilities; worth checking (and installing) latest video drivers from manufacturer's site.

This is an APPLE computer... no antivirus programs, firewalls, backup utilities (xcept apple's own); and all software up to date by apple's latest standard, i.e. no 3rd party hard- or software on the "main" level of OS.

yes, I have a parallel installation of win10 on my MacBook, and when I install AOO on that win10, it works. But that is very tiresome, to switch constantly between the MacOS and the Win10 level ...
