Unknown Graphics Format - png, gif?

Post by DoyenSyd »

Hi,

I'm trying to use Impress from the 2.4.0 Open Office suite that is installed on a server running RedHat 4 Enterprise.
I could not work out why presentations created in other computers would not show the images, masterslide when opened using
this one. The origin of the problem I think was shown when:

I'm tried to insert an image (I have tried two formats, png, and gif) by two methods:
1) Click on Insert Menu and then Picture from file
2) New slide, choosing a format with has a 'double click to insert graphics'

and both return a pop up dialog saying 'unknown graphics format' .

Now I know this works because on my PC running Scientific Linux 4 (a variant of RedHat 4) on which I
installed 2.4.0 Open Office myself I do not get such problems and I can insert images to my hearts delight.

It must be that Open Office is not finding the correct helpers to allow it to read gif and png files.. but I would
not know where it is looking for them or how to reconfigure it. or which are the ones it uses.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Aldo

Is the OOo on the Red Hat server the official Sun Build of OOo (that is, did you download it from OOo), or is it a Red Hat version?
