Set default font and size for text
Set default font and size for text
How do you set the default for the font and size of the font?
And will this default be for the presentation that I'm working on, or will it be the default every time I open Impress?
Thanks.

Re: Default Font and Size
Also, does the font/size default effect the font/size default on the Notes part of the slide too? Can the Notes part of the slide have its own font/size default?

Re: Default Font and Size
I somehow got into Changing Default Templates. You need to have a PhD in confusion to figure it out. Then I went into Format - Styles and Formatting, and the window opened on the right. And good luck with that.
Why is this so tough? All I want to do is set a stinkin' font and font size and keep that font/size each time I add a slide. Is that asking too much?

Re: Default Font and Size
Bring up the styles and formatting window (Format -> Styles and Formatting). Click the second link from the left near the top of the window to display the Presentation formats. Right click on Outline 1 and select Modify. On the Font tab you can select a font and I believe this will also affect all of the other outline styles. You can individually set the font, font size and many other text attributes of each outline level if you want to fine tune the presentation appearance. If you save the presentation as the default template, the changes will apply to every new presentation you open.

Re: Default Font and Size
I went into Outline1, changed the font/size (Times New Roman, 22), went to a slide and typed, it worked. But then it went back to default (Ariel, 18).
Here's what happens. When I type in the big box, it's Times New Roman. But when click lower down in the box it goes back to Arial. In other words, when I type where it says, "Click to add text", it's the TNR font. But when I type under that, it revers back to Arial.

Re: Default Font and Size
I just clicked in the middle of a slide to type. It's Ariel 18. And besides changing the default in the Outline 1 heading, I also changed the default font/size under the graphics icon - Text and Text Body - headings to Times New Roman, 22 as well. And they're still set to TNR, 22. But Ariel is still spitting out.
I just checked. All the Outlines 1-9 are all TNR, 22 (even though I only changed outline 1). So why is the font Ariel?

Re: Default Font and Size
If by "when I type under that" you mean you are typing in a text box created with the text tool on the Drawing tool bar, that uses a different style than an outline. If you have the Styles and Formatting window open, when you start typing in the text box you will see that the selected styles changes to the Default style in the Graphics Styles list. Right click on Default and select Modify to set up that style.

Re: Default Font and Size
Text tool? Drawing tool? I don't think so. But now it's gone from bad to worse. I copied text (Times New Roman) from a Writer document and pasted it into a slide. And the font changed to some kind of crazy looking Russian Cyrillic. I never changed the font to that! And the font is still set to Times New Roman in the outlines, Text and text body. What the heck did I do?

Re: Default Font and Size
Ok, this really ticking me off. I went up to the A icon and see the font was (somehow) set to symbol. So I changed it to TNR. I pasted in some text and only 1 letter of the text fit (the narrow box went straight down).
Tried it again, and pasted in text but it's microscopic, the wrong color and...wait for it...ARIEL! But wait there's more.
I keep clicking on the text so I can highlight it and change the font/size, but it won't let me. I can't highlight the text! (the box has red dots and switches to green - doesn't matter. I can't get in there to highlight the text!)
So Ariel works as a default, the crazy Russian Cyrillic worked as a default. But I can't get TNR to be the default, AND LOCK IT IN.
If OO's goal was to drive its users mad...it's working.

And now it's back to the crazy Russian Cyrillic! Somehow it revered back to "Symbol" but I never touched it!

Re: Default Font and Size
It is hard to say what is going on without seeing the documents. I can paste from Writer to Impress without any formatting problems. Can you post a small example of a presentation and writer document that show the problem? There is an Upload Attachment tab just below the box where you type a response.

Re: Default Font and Size
After taking a few days to cool off, I tried entering the numbered headings manually, w/o the "Bullets and Numbering" feature. That works.
I copied text from the Writer document and pasted it into Notepad, copied it from there and pasted it into the Impress slide. By pasting it into Notepad, it clears out the font, size and formatting it has (even though they're all the same). No wild Russian Cyrillic font, and no microscopic dark black text. Some lines in the Writer document were in italics and I think that's what gave me the Russian Cyrillic for whatever reason.
And I figured out the bullet points. Although I don't understand why, sometimes, you hit the BP icon to add a BP and it actually adds the BP to the line ABOVE. That doesn't make sense at all.
One thing I changed is the font size, from 24 to 22. I made the change to 22 everywhere, in the top "A" font size icon, and the Styles and Formatting Outline windows. Everywhere. But when I checked (after making a few slides), they're still 24! So I have to check every slide to make sure its 22.
I don't understand why when you change the font, or size up top (via the "A" font icons), it just doesn't STAY to what you changed it to UNTIL you change it again. If that's how it does work, then I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Maybe I'm not clicking "ok" to lock in the change.
