So I am new to OpenOffice and Love it! I was creating a presentation for my class,
I saved everything as one would normally, and when I go to open it....
It asks me what language I want, and couple other questions...that dont make much sense
to me, currently. And then as I open it...its about 7 pages of #'s no spaces...
#############
#############
the whole doc.....
I really need this, I put a lot of work into it &
I dont want to re write it
Does anyone know if I can recover it?

Sorry, when that happens it means the document file is damaged. Unless you have a backup copy, or there may be a leftover temporary copy, I'm afraid there's nothing to do but start over.
Try Tools > Options > OOo > Paths. One of the entries there tells where temp files are kept--look in that location and see of there are any files left there.

This can happen when, having finished an editing session, the user shuts down the computer too quickly (say by snapping the lid shut if a laptop) withour leaving time for the system and hardware disk buffers to flush.
I always advise users to close the file using /File /Close in OpenOffice, honouring any prompt to save an unsaved file, then to exit OpenOffice (/File /Exit), and power down the computer using the system shutdown option. Don't begrudge the few seconds this takes - it is much, much less than a rewrite.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Sadly, quite nothing to do, see: 22 pages term paper replaced with pound signs.
Any power shortage for example? It's a common root cause of such problem.
Check the temporary folder of the system (see in OOo Tools>Options>OOo>Paths). If there are folders like sgmlf.tmp with a file having the same name inside, make a copy of that file, rename it in .odp and cross your fingers.
