Imported Master Pages Don't Show Up, Don't Save

I have loaded (with a lot of blood, sweat and tears), my 100-some PowerPoint templates (.pot) into Impress. Now, I have a huge list of these under the "Available for Use" section on the right side of the screen.

Unfortunately, many of them are blank white with black print. I hover my mouse over them and they show the correct name, but the preview is white, and if I select them, they come up white in my presentation.

Another problem is that when I save them with a certain template, it never opens up with that template as its background. Instead, it always defaults back to one I used when I was just starting with Impress.

Has anyone found a way to correct either of these two problems?
