[Solved] Powerpoint Viewer can't read file saved as .ppt

After creating a single slide with just one line of text and saving the file as junk.ppt, I was unable to read the file with any of the recent versions of Microsoft's Powerpoint Viewer. All attempts lead to the error message "Powerpoint viewer cannot open the file junk.ppt" The Microsoft conversion option check boxes were both checked. My file junk.ppt is attached.

Solution:
There was no problem with either OpenOffice or PowerPoint Viewer. The problem was simply that the Microsoft Viewer would not open the file when it was in use by Impress.

I can open it fine with Powerpoint 2003, don't know if there is a difference with the viewers.

Works for me with MS Office PowerPoint Viewer 2003, Version 11.0.5703 on Win XP pro SP2.

BillWoodard, did you try reinstalling the viewer? What operating system are you using? Do other .ppt files work fine?
