[Solved] Adding text over a graphic
How can I import a picture or graphic, make it dim, and then add text on top of it?

Re: Adding text over a graphic
Insert > Picture > From File
Select the image and adjust the image parameters (brightness and/or contrast, or the transparency) to "dim" the image.
Add text using the text box tool from the Drawing toolbar (below the slide editing area).

I can't find how to adjust parameters. If I select "area" and then transparency, it has no effect on the image.

Sorry, I meant to mention that the image adjustment is done through the "Picture" toolbar, which should appear anytime an image is selected. With my install of OOo, it appears just above the slide editing area--but only when an image is selected.
If you don't see the picture toolbar, check View > Toolbars > Picture
