master slides how to?

Hello,

Fairly new to OpenOffice and trying to get the hang of things.
Having a little trouble with impress. I have created a couple of simple presentations, however I am trying to create one by incorporating various slides from other presentations. However I cannot. Whenever I try to copy a slide from one presentation to another all I get is a blank white slide sometimes with the text sometimes just blank. I get a dialog that says "The format of the pages will be adapted. Do you want to adapt the objects too? Yes - No - Cancel". Am I missing a step here or not doing something correctly? Also somewhat related how do I take a master page (slide) and make it a master page in a new presentation. Thanks anybody for their patience and assistance.

I'm using:
OS - WinME
OOS - 2.1

Do the slides you're inserting have a black (or dark) background, with white text, by any chance?

I'm not sure of the answer to your master slide question. Have you read the chapter on templates and master slides in the Impress Guide? OOo Guides

No they don't. It's a gray background for the text area with a blue border along the top and left side with a logo in the upper left corner.

Yes. tried that and the help section of the program. Can't seem to find an easy or simply explained answer.

Thanks for the reply. I'll keep trying.

Well, you're not alone. I, for one, am completely confused by Impress' mishmash of styles, templates, and masters. Frankly, I'm not sure the developers understand it either ;-)

If you could attach a sample of the slides you're trying to copy/paste, we could give it a try and maybe get a handle on what's going on.

Acknak,

Thanks for the support. I even tried working on a computer with powerpoint and after staring at the screen for a while, figured I'd try impress again. After playing around trying this or that (learning by trial & error), I found I could reproduce the slide I wanted from scratch and make it look fairly decent. :)
The only minor glitch I have now is part of my background is a gradient color (light to dark, left to right). When I close the presentation and open it back up that part is now reversed (dark to light, right to left). Any thoughts on why?
BTW it shows correctly when the slide show is played, anyway minor thing.

Again, thanks for the help.

I've seen that problem as well; I had forgotten about it. I think it's just a bug.

I'll have a play with it and see what's up.

PS: It's a long-known bug: Issue 14222: Impress gradients reverse direction. That one is closed as a duplicate of this one: Issue 70102: impress interpretes gradient wrong in ppt import. If you're interested, you can register and vote (up to two) for that one, and/or add a comment.
