Image map and interactive quizz for a class

Post by potemayo »

Hello !

I would like to work with my pupils (12 y.o.) on creating an image map, well, a sensitive image (actually a real map) on which they could click and make a little quizz appear.

What I did until now to try if I could do it :

- I created the separate quizz by using a odp presentation (slides linked by clickable text <= sorry my english is maybe not really good, I'm french..) Let's call it "B"

- I created a new odp presentation (that would be "A"), inserted the image of the map, andpasted a rectangle shape on one area.

Needless to say, that was the easy part.

- Then I tried to insert the quizz, as a floating frame with my odp presentation as a content. (apparently it acts as if it was an ole object)
The presentation appears, but...
First problem :it appears with all the slide sorter indications, which I would like to get rid off.
Second problem, I don't know if it's possible to move that object on the page, so that it would appear exactly where I want it to.
Then, third problem, I can't seem to be able to apply a transition effet on it to make it appear after clicking on the rectangle shape.
Last and worst problem : it doesn't work at all and doesn't appear when I launch the slide show (ha-ha-ha) (...) ('crying')

-So I tried something else : I exported B as a standard html format. But the when I click inside, the quizz does open in a new web page ('crying again')

Am I trying to do something that is impossible?? Thanks a lot if you can help me!

Best,

Well, I don't know if it is impossible, but it sure is a broken-down pain in the butt.

I had no problem setting up an imagemap (Edit > Imagemap), and it works in the slide editing mode, but nothing I tried would work during the slide show.

It turns out that this is a known problem: Issue 59547: imagemap hyperlink doesn't work in slideshow. You can register there and add your vote (up to two) or comment.

It is possible to work around that by drawing actual graphic shapes over the image, then adding an interaction to each of them: "Go to page or object".

That works, but it has a couple of not-so-helpful features. First, if the shape is completely invisible, clicks on it are not registered. So you have to fill the shape with some color and then make it 99% transparent.

Second, the interaction does not provide the normal tooltip when the mouse hovers over the shape. The cursor changes shape, but there's no indication of what will happen if you click there. Maybe that's actually better for a quiz ;-)

Here's a sample with a map of France that uses both an image map (over Bretagne)--that doesn't work in the show, of course--and two graphic shapes with interactions (Limosin & Bourgogne). I left a visible border on the shapes; you probably want to make the line style invisible.

Wow! Thank you for trying and doing all that (and for the choice of the map hehe.. )!
I'll do this with the children then, it will be easier for them to cope with than trying to use the floating frame and stuff.. I'm sure it'll work perfectly for them.
Thank you so much for your help again!!
