Hello,
Some MS Office powerpoint (.pps) files I receive on e-mail go directly to slideshow mode when I open them - i.e. opening in full screen view and start playing.
So far I didn't find a way to either stop the slide show from advancing (to let me finish reading the text, for instance) or just have more control on the way I view it.
As soon as I hit "ESC" in the slideshow, Impress EXITS completely instead of just leaving the slideshow mode and falling back to edit mode.
This is on Ubuntu 9.10 with the OpenOffice version which comes with it (3.1.1 right now), both on 32 and 64 bit versions.
I have a sample powerpoint file to demonstrate the problem but it's 6Mb. If you are OK with it then I'll try to find a place to post it (is there a preferred way in this forum?).
Thanks,
--Amos

If I remember ccorrectly, the answer is to rename the slideshow to .ppt (from .pps). This will let it be opened in Edit mode, and you can then alter settings to manually advance or slow the advance.

[SOLVED] Stopping auto slideshow mode on PPS files exits imp
Thanks! This worked.RoryOF wrote:If I remember ccorrectly, the answer is to rename the slideshow to .ppt (from .pps). This will let it be opened in Edit mode, and you can then alter settings to manually advance or slow the advance.
It's a bit weird - doesn't ".ppt" stand for "PowerPoint Template" vs. ".pps" which is not a template?
Is there a smarter way to achieve that?

Re: [SOLVED] Stopping auto slideshow mode on PPS files exits
.pot is the Powerpoint template, .ppt is the presentation, pps is the slideshow.
I don't think there is a simpler fix than changing one letter in the extension

Re: [Solved] Stopping auto slideshow mode on PPS files exits
I agree this solution is simple, but it so happens I maintain all computers at home and my mom really liked the way OpenOffice 2.4.3 treated pps files. It opened them in edit mode by default and she could preview the presentation before going into slideshow mode....if she didn't find anything of interest, she would delete it (naturally this is faster, especially on an old computer), also she will not like the solution.... Is there no way of changing this in the latest version of impress? there has to be a way!

That's still the way the Sun version works. See [Solved] Open pps files in edit instead of presentation mode.acimmarusti wrote:my mom really liked the way OpenOffice 2.4.3 treated pps files.
