[Solved] Slide not displaying in notes view

I have exactly one slide in a presentation where the slide will not display in the notes view. This is caused when I change any setting on the format page menu. I HAVE to change the settings there so that when I print the presentation in notes view it will print in portrait mode with the slide above the notes. Once I change any setting on the format page menu in the notes view from what it seems to default to the slide portion disappears. Changing the setting back does NOT correct the problem. Any ideas?

Was this presentation created new in Impress, or was it imported as a Powerpoint file?

Are you saving the file as ODF (.odp for presentations) or as .ppt?

Do you see this happening if you start a new presentation with only one slide and follow those same steps? Or does the problem just affect one particular slide in one particular presentation?

If you copy that slide to a new presentation, does the problem follow the slide?

And does the slide have an image? If so, what format?

Slide may have started its life as ppt, but when I first got my hands on it is was .odp. If I copy the slide into another presentation, it acts exactly the same way. The slide is basically one bitmap with some text overlaying part of it.

Interesting. Well, if you can attach that one-slide sample here, maybe someone can take a look at it. I don't know what might cause the problem, but something might pop out. Happy to include a copy...Any help would be appreciated. Well, I thought I would be...The slide is 1.8 Mb, so it is too large to attach. If someone is willing to look at it, I'd be willing to email it...

Maybe the large size is why it doesn't work

It is interesting to note that a colleague of mine has almost the exact same slide at the same software levels as I and it works for him. But when I transfer this to him, it acts just as it does for me... I REALLY want to know what I did wrong to this thing,.

Displays OK in notes view for me on Sun/Oracle OOo 3.3 on W2K. Doesn't show up on handout page.

Have you tried, while in the notes view, doing a Format, Page, and then for instance changing it from landscape to portrait mode? That's when it seems to disappear on me...

I'm not seeing it disappear from the notes view, even after changing the page orientation.

I'm reproducing the problem, and I'm on 3.2.1 on XP.

When the slide disappears on the notes page, if you select by pulling a box about the upper part of the page one green handle appears. I suspect this is the page reduced to minuscule proportions, where all eight selection handles coincide.

Ack! That's twice today I've opened a different file than I intended to.

I had re-created the slide design in a new presentation to see if it was something with the image itself, but that worked fine. I thought I had the sample open and everything was working... Grr.

So, I see the same problem, and RoryOF nailed it--Great catch!

If you select the phantom object, do Format > Position & Size, the size is "0.01" inches. If you unprotect the size and change it to something reasonable, you get the preview back. So that should be one workaround for you.

Another is just to re-create the slide. I'm still guessing that there is some weirdness coming from a previous life as a Powerpoint slide, or maybe as an earlier Impress or Symphony release.
