OpenOffice Will Not Open

Post by BlueTrinity »

Hey all! I don't understand why. But last night I started writing on OpenOffice Writer on a document for work. And when I went back to the writer. OpenOffice will not open at all. I get the error message: soffice.bin System Error "The code execution cannot proceed because fwi.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem" I have tried just that. I completely reinstalled the program. But it did nothing. Also whenever I try to open OpenOffice Malwarebytes pops up with a warning that it blocked malware from OpenOffice. I have OpenOffice 4.1.11 on my laptop and it opens no issues. But on my desktop where I wanted to work and have OpenOffice 4.1.14 it's having this issue. Any suggestions for a fix? Or explanations as to why this happened?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

The first thing to try is to reset your OpenOffice user profile.
But honestly, I doubt it will do anything. It may be a problem with your security application. Make sure that AOO is whitelisted.

Else, try LibreOffice. Under much more active development, it seems to have less of such integration issue with the operating system. See [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the 🖉 button if your issue has been fixed.

fwi.dll Not found. Best to switch to LibreOffice anyway.

I tried reinstalling. I'm wondering if it's an issue with the 4.1.14 version itself? Because 4.1.11 works fine on my laptop. And I downloaded it from the official site. Which then took me to a site called source forge.

SourceForge is indeed the repository from where you can download AOO.
If you want to make sure, check the checksums: https://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html

Try to reset your OpenOffice user profile.
If no change, try LibreOffice (link provided at the beginning of the discussion.

I have the same problem on 4.1.14
Does that mean Malwarebytes is blocking OpenOffice as reported by the OP?
