Trouble with retrieving some of my Writer files

Hi, I need help retrieving some of my OpenOffice writer documents.
I have been successfully using OpenOffice for a number of years however, today when I tried to open some of my recent files I just get pages of hashtags #
Some documents are opening fine. It just seems random which documents will open properly.
When it's a faulty document I get a pop-up box
