[Solved] Saving as DOCX

Post by [Dimetrodon] »

Hey everyone.

Open office is pretty good but it seems that I cannot save directly as a docx file from the dropdown, even though the software can open these types of files. Is that due to M$ owning it as a proprietary format and restricting how it can be used?

Thanks.

Is that due to M$ owning it as a proprietary format and restricting how it can be used?
One of the many reasons:
The OOXML "standard" has two main versions: the Strict, and the Transitional. MS uses the Transitional one since the Standard was published, because the MS can change often the properties of this version. And it is not an easy task to follow these changes.
The MS users can change the default version of the OOXML to Strict, but this option is hided in the deep settings of the MS Office.

...And - because it is a huge task - the existing small developer team of the AOO can not develop this feature, and they want not / can not integrate the existing solution of the LibreOffice into the AOO.

Use the LibreOffice - if you MUST export a copy into the foreign file format, but always work with the LibreOffice in the onternational standard, native ODF file formats:

Please, edit the initial post in the topic: add the word [Solved] at the beginning of the subject line - if your problem has been solved.

Read the link in my footer about the many reasons why you should save in .odt.

Have you switched off the warning message which reminds you you may lose content and formatting saving as anything other than .odt??
