[Solved] Opening new document when in Writer

To whomever can help,
I'm unable to open a separate Writer document, in which I want to send 30 pages of my book manuscript to a book publishing company, while I have open the manuscript in Writer. Clicking on the OpenOffice logo to open a separate document sends me to the manuscript, which I don't want. I need to save the 30 pages in a separate document I can then send to the publishing company in a separate email. How can I do this?

The menu item File -> New -> Text Document will open a new blank document.

Don't you see this icon on the left (for LibreOffice but there is the same in AOO IIRC):

A single click should create a new document, the arrow allows you to select any other new document from the suite (Calc, Impress...).

The OpenOffice icon does not open a specific module like Writer. Try clicking the Writer icon on the Start menu. That works for me in Ubuntu MATE.
