[Solved] No Writer and Text Document greyed out

Post by repairtech »

Just loaded Open Office 4 on my computer and tried to open a windows office file and there is no way to open it. The only icons I have showing ( in order) Spreadsheet, Presentation, Open, Drawing, Database, Formula and Templates. The Text Document is greyed out so it cant be opened. I tried loading the word file with the open icon but it does not work.
What the heck did I miss or did I do something incorrectly

Poe

Edit: Changed subject, was No WORD and Text Document greyed out
The text processor in OpenOffice is Writer, not Word.

If you chose a custom instllation, you may not have installed Writer. Reinstall AOO and choose a full installation instead of a custom installation. Here is a similar problem:

What operating system and AOO version are you using?

I've activated the signature in initial post. Some users deactivate it, not sure why...

Is it possible to make a partial installation on Windows? I never seen such option during the installation procedure.

There used to be a "custom install" option at some point during the installation process.

The options "Complete" and "Custom" are on the Setup Type page of the Installation Wizard for the official installation. They may not be available on unofficial portable installations.

It is a good tip.
I had not istalled permanent AOO versions since the LO fork date...

But (if I can remember exactly) there is not such option even in my LO 6.1.6 version (newer LO versions are installed as portable version on my PC...)

The wiki states that the option to select installed modules was removed from Windows installer in LibreOffice 4.2.
See https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq ... Components

Ok I tried to reinstall and it gave me a menu with ADD OPTIONS or something like that and I noticed that there was a big red X next to writer so I removed the X and it installed correctly. I never had any chance to change the options on the first attempt to install as I had chosen a full install. Not sure why writer was not installed however..working great now.. thanks guys..

You are not the first one to report this kind of issue. I guess that it is a very rare case when something interferes with the setup and deselects one or several components.
