Set preferred language as default

Edit: Split from [Solved] NZ Spellcheck won't work because that topic is solved so you need your own. Please do not post in another's topic unless you are helping to solve their problem for them.

 YES - Got it to go. :bravo: I also had a 'dumb' document. I highlighted the whole document, then went to the bottom bar, and clicked at the centre. Up came four options (!) and I clicked on the one I wanted. BINGO - it all works. I have no ideas on why this feature stopped working. And I would also say that the pop-up options quickly verified what I had installed. From now on I shall read what it says in that bottom centre box. :fist:

My above solution did not always work !!  :?
Diving deeper - - - - and finally spotted a setting route: In your open document, select "Tools" > "Language" > "For all text" > which brings up loaded language sets. Click on required option. If required option is not listed, go on-line and download it.
Somewhere in OpenOffice there must be a way to lock in the default language as your preferred language??? :|

Yes there is; set it as the default language in your default template.

Tools → Options → Language Settings → Languages → Default languages for documents (but templates are better as they can be easily transferred to other users/machines and survive any reinstallation of the program).
