[Solved] Format doesn't show negative numbers in red

Post by garryll77 »

When formatting a cell, I alway choose the negative number in RED. The negative numbers are in Black, not RED. Any ideas or a guess?

Edit: Changed subject, was Cell Formating

Please post a small example file showing the problem. To upload a file, click Post Reply and look for the Attachments tab just below the box where you type a response.
Red formatting works for me, so I can't guess what is causing your problem.

What file format are you using?

How you formatted the cells: manually or by cell styles?

A few possible causes that spring to mind:
  • You may have enabled value highlighting (from the View menu or <b>ctrl</b>+<b>F8</kbd>). Numerical values entered should then appear in blue, which you may well have taken for black.
  • Your numbers may have been taken as text input. This is particularly common when numbers include a currency symbol and "detect special numbers" is not in effect.
  • You may have enabled high contrast mode in the accessibility settings for your computer. Calc will detect this and use black or white instead of your chosen formatting color. You can disable detection of high contrast from the Tools - Options dialog
If the value highlighting or high contrast setting is the cause, a preview display (from the File menu) should display correct coloring.
