[Solved] Spell-check underlines entire document as misspelled

Post by brucestillwrites »

Help! My dictionary function has stopped working/or the dictionary has disappeared! When I press the button for automatic spell-check, it underlines the entire document as misspelled. I reloaded OpenOffice to the newest version, and it is still doing this. The only words not underlined are the words I have added to the dictionary. If you reply, please make it understandable to someone who only understands the basics.

 Edit: Changed subject, was Dictionary

I have restarted the computer/I have totally deleted OpenOffice and reloaded it. The problem persists.

Try resetting your user profile. Here is a tutorial for Windows 10: Windows 10 profile reset.

I was mistaken when I listed myself as having Window 10. I have the version before that.

To reset your user profile, first shutdown OpenOffice. Open any folder and in the address bar near the top enter
%appdata%\openoffice\4
That will take you to a folder containing a folder named user. Right click on that folder and rename it user_old. Start OpenOffice and you should get the registration screen. Fill that out and then see if the spellchecker is working.
