[Solved] Repeating Item Labels in Pivot Table

Post by SRHPHR33 »

I have Google'd and ChatGPT'd the heck out of this problem and am not able to figure it out. I have a simple pivot table and can not locate anything that will help me turn on repeating item labels. See first table below (sample worksheet). Here are the steps I've taken:

1. Right click on table and select "edit layout"

2. Double-click on the "date" field to open up the Data Field dialog box.

3. Click "options" - nothing there to solve my problem.

Another way:

1. same as above

2. Click "more" in the bottom right corner - nothing there to help either.

I'm used to working in Excel, but this particular client uses OpenOffice. It's driving me nuts, what am I missing?

1. Copy the pivot to another sheet. This copy will not be a functional pivot table. Just a copy of cells.
2. Select the first empty cell to be filled (below 05/01/23 on your picture) until the last empty cell to be filled.
3. Copy the selected range.
4. Type a formula like =A5 (reference to the cell above the active cell) and confirm the input with Alt+Enter which fills the entered formula into the whole range selection.
5. Paste-special [Ctrl+Shift+V], choose "All" plus "Skip empty cells".

The result is a range of formulas, each one referencing the above neighbour with the constant data pasted back in step 5.

karolus recalled the right option.

Thank you so much @karolus, but that doesn't work either. This is what I see once I double click Date, then Options:

If you attach a small example file instead of screenshots, we don't need to guess how the data look like and can try out solutions without entering data.

Rightclick on the pivot table, Edit Layout, drag Description from the Row fields to the Column fields and Net from the Row fields to the Data fields. Press OK. That's probably what you intended.

Thank you so much, but how in the world did you do this? I'm looking at the pivot table set up and it doesn't look different to me, from what I had originally.

Thanks for replying! Almost, it solved the problem for the Description, but the Date (that is in the row field), still does not have the repeating dates displayed.

Replace OpenOffice with LibreOffice and the feature will be available for all row and column fields, together with hundreds of other things.

There's only one row for each date, so there's nothing to repeat.
