I don't have permission to open the document

Most of my documents suddenly won't open. A note appears that says I don't have permission to open the document, and I should contact the owner (that's me) or the administrator. I don't know how to contact an administrator, or why this has happened. Help.

The administrator in question is your computer system administrator, which might be you if your computer is a personal (i.e., not business) computer.

You (as administrator) probably need to change Windows Defender settings to allow OpenOffice open its files. As I don't use Windows I cannot give specific instructions, but no doubt someone else will help.

Try a forum search using keywords from the note.

Thanks. Now, "Avast" is managing my networks, how do I check it to see if it has prevented some documents from being opened?

It's been years since I used Avast. They do have a forum.
