[Solved] OpenOffice crashes

Post by sjjr44 »

Open office keeps crashing (6 or 7 times today) on me and i lose about 10 or fifteen minutes of work every time. i am using calc mostly and i have to figure out where i am when I restore the file.

I believe that where I don't use open office that often I don't feel that the system shouldn't crash.

any suggestions??????

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Try first to reset the application user profile.

If no change, try LibreOffice, at least a portable version first to make sure it fits your needs). AOO is almost not developed anymore.

+1
Use the LibreOffice. It has a higher compatibility with the newer versions of the operating systems.

AOO works fine with Windows 11 but must be installed with admin privileges.

It also has to be white listed if there are security applications that monitor what is running and kill the untrusted ones.
But it seems that there are no such issues with LO.

One quick test for causes of crashes is to start Windows in Safe Mode, and, running Windows in that mode, use OpenOffice. If OpenOffice runs stable in Windows Safe Mode, then the cause is by some program or driver that runs in Windows Normal mode.

AOO Calc cashes, sometimes with "bad allocation" error messages, are a known bug caused when Calc tries to allocate more that 2 GB of memory, where 32 bit addressing is limited to 2 GB. It happens with complex spreadsheets and it has been reported that Calc allocates several hundred MB of memory for each sheet in a spreadsheet so the limit can quickly be reached.

Try LibreOffice which, as a 64bit application, can address over 2 GB.
