Please confirm: do you double click on the downloaded file in your browser's Downloads folder? If so, are there any error messages?

What file did you download and how did you "follow the installation".

Where are you expecting it to "show up"?

This forum is receiving a fair number of posts with issues similar to the one you are reporting with OpenOffice on Windows 10. A fair number solve the issue by installing LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice. There are good reasons to be installing LibreOffice anyway as it is actively developed and up to date, the same cannot be said of OpenOffice. LibreOffice is very similar to OpenOffice in day-to-day use and you will be able to open all the files you created with OpenOffice without issues.

I still don't understand why many issues with the installation just don't occur with LibreOffice. Is the AOO code so deprecated that it does not integrate anymore with recent environments??? I mean the OS + the software layers that could interfere.

This is really something that the AOO team should check (if there is any point working on that).

I think this is mostly user error - they look for an OpenOffice file, and it is actually Apache_OpenOffice ... so they don't find it, as thinking might be too much effort.
