[Solved] Warning when opening hyperlinks in OpenOffice

Post by SimonF »

I use an OO Writer document to list music. The music is stored as MP3s or MP4s. The document has hyperlinks to the relevant tracks - I click on a hyperlink and that track opens the track in VLC. I have never had a problem until now ...

I recently re-installed OO - now when I click on the MP4 hyperlinks (MP3s are fine) it gives me a warning about security - it says:

"This hyperlink is going to open" and then details the filepath before asking "do you want to proceed?" - I can select "yes" "no" or "help". The help takes me to information about macros.

As directed, under security / macros I have set the level to the lowest security setting as I never receive documents from anybody else. Notwithstanding, the warning persists.

I would be grateful for any guidance BUT ... I am not a technically gifted person so please keep this in mind.

A big "thank you" in advance.

Edit: Changed subject, was Macro warning - sometimes

I recently re-installed OO - now when I click on the MP4 hyperlinks it gives me a warning about macros.

Maybe the User profile of the Office Suite has damaged, deleted. Where was the macros stored to? In the document? In the MyMacros?
Can you upload an Error message here?
Can you upload the macro code here?
Can you upload an ODF type sample file here

Thanks for the response. I have not consciously stored macros - I have just inserted a hyperlink to the file. If by so-doing I have created a macro then I do not know where the macros are stored. I have amended my OP as I do not know how to insert an image.

I am awfully sorry if this seems a bit useless but it has always worked until now.

Oh ok - but when I click on "help" I see this:

Naturally, I assumed it was something to do with macros. If not, perhaps anyway somebody can help me stop it giving this warning. Thanks

Zizi64 I read through that similar topic and it seems like it was a bug issue that was (supposedly) fixed, but now it resurfaces.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sad to say it but this looks like another one of those issues that suggest SimonF should switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice.

I just did a test in LibreOffice Writer and it opens hyperlinks to files without issue.

Thanks for the latest posts.

This issue is not the end of the world, just plain irritating. Anyway, I think maybe the time has come to embrace LibreOffice.

As ever, I am appreciative for all the input. Thank you.

Just to say I have installed LibreOffice and so far, all good. My documents are opening well and the links are working without any security warnings. I have some complicated spreadsheets and these are working well too. I am also finding that LO Calc has a clean / fresh appearance.

I have often thought about making the change and I am pleased to have now done it (thanks LastUnicorn) - that said, OpenOffice has been a great help to me over the years.

In my experience iPhone cameras seem to create .heic as a standard image format. FaceBook supports upload of those images.

In the GitHub link, pcx is listed twice.

I was surprised not to see zip there.

Thank you for both indications!

How can we cite you in the commit message? "Thanks to..." MrProgrammer?

Well, ZIP can contain "unsafe" files, so it's a bit border-line.
Users may not be too much surprised when asked for confirmation to open a ZIP file.
On the other hand, the OP was surely surprised when asked for confirmation to open an audio file. That is why we are working on this list.
