Punctuation does not appear until next character is typed

Post by bardkin »

When writing I use a punctuation mark but it does not appear until I've hit either the space bar or when I type it again.
Example:'
The apostrophe in the contraction "That Is" = That's.
When I type the apostrophe it doesn't show up unless I hit it a second time, then I get two apostrophes. Or if I hit the space bar immediately afterwards.

No matter what I have to use backspace and retype.

Any information on this that could help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

That's a feature of the so-called "dead keys" in the keyboard settings of your operating system. They allow you to enter letters with accents without much trouble. You type `followed by e to get è and " and o to get ö. Enter ' and space or " and space to get ' or ".

I noticed that you have posted another topic about SpellCheck not working. Check your language setting for the document. Both problems could be related to the language setting.
