[Solved] Samanata font character ढ displayed incorrectly
[Solved] Samanata font character ढ displayed incorrectly
Hello, please see attachment 1 the character of Hindi alphabet ढ as in my font editing software, and attachment 2 as in Insert > Special character in Calc of the same font.
What makes the difference? Is it an openoffice issue or system issue?

Re: Font displayed incorrectly in calc ढ
Noto Sans Devanagari, subset Devanagari, gives a character similar to your font editing software.

Re: Font displayed incorrectly in calc ढ
Is this an issue coming from my OpenOffice, the .ttf font file or a system issue?

The character is not shown after "Characters:" at the bottom of the Special Characters dialog so it hasn't been selected. What happens if you click on the character to select it?
Using the Samanata font, the character displays normally for me in Apache OpenOffice 4.1.12 and in FontForge.

How does that character display if you use another editor, say notepad or wordpad?

I assume that your issue is a combination of two points: missing point in top left corner of the horizontal bar and added "stray" point in the inner contour of the loop, breaking outside the loop.
- Are you sure that you have saved the change to the font file?
- Are you sure that the edited content is the version in use?
IOW:- it is the installed font file
- you restarted everything after saving your edit, to eliminate any caching.

I do not know how to edit the font. I noted there are few problems in this font.keme wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 3:37 pm I assume that your issue is a combination of two points: missing point in top left corner of the horizontal bar and added "stray" point in the inner contour of the loop, breaking outside the loop.

In the above photo, I was just showing how the alphabet U+0922 looks like in FontForge.
I uninstalled the font, restart and re-installed the font. It is the same result.

Then you might need to find another version of the same or of a closely similar font.

Re: Font displayed incorrectly in calc ढ
The DEVANAGARI LETTER DDHA character displays fine for me with OpenOffice 4.1.7 on MacOS 10.14.6 using a pre-installed font. Maybe you have a font or operating system problem. This doesn't seem like an OpenOffice problem.
How are we supposed to know what your operating system system is if you don't tell us (2nd quote, 1st sentence) and your signature is bogus (2nd quote, 2nd sentence)? We are not mind readers. That information is often quite important in solving problems since otherwise you may get inappropriate advice. Click your name in the upper right corner of the page and select User Control Panel → Profile → Edit signature. It is your resposibility to provide your OpenOffice version and operating system version. How can you expect someone to advise you on a "system issue" if you don't say which system it is?
Survival Guide - Basic Information Needed
Why are you running font editing software if you don't know how to use it? You might break something. Assistance with font editing software is off-topic for this forum.
If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Re: Font displayed incorrectly in Calc ढ
At first, I thought this might be a graphical glitch, but since WordPad and OpenOffice both show the same modified character and re-installing doesn't fix the problem, it looks like the installation file has been modified at some point. From the screen shot of the Special Characters dialog, the character U+095D has also been modified. Version 1.0 of the Samanata font pre-installed on Ubuntu MATE does not have these modifications. Where did you get the Samanata font installation file?
