[Solved] Insert character from Kanchan font

Post by a928 »

I have installed a font called "Kanchan" of Indian origin. I am looking for a character ॠ but it is not found in the special character below insert on the tool bar.

While this may be a problem caused by the font distributer but I am not sure if any error within my OpenOffice system can cause the font to not showing up.

It does not require special Indian alphabet knowledge to answer this question as it is just a technical font installation issue.

I also have no knowledge if it is the same way of input in OpenOffice and outside in other application.

So my question is specifically how to insert the character ॠ in OpenOffice using the Kanchan font. Any help is much appreciated.

Edit: Changed subject, was Font installation

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Try a portable version of LibreOffice and if it's better, then consider switching to it completely.

While I don't have that font installed, I did find the character U+0960 in the Insert → Special Characters dialog in the Devanagari subset. Its Unicode name is DEVANAGARI LETTER VOCALIC RR. This is with OpenOffice 4.1.7.

Installing a font is an operating system task, not an OpenOffice task. After you install a font you need to restart OpenOffice for it to be available there. Depending on your operating system you may need to restart that too.

The two Kanchan fonts I downloaded and installed did not have character U+0960.
