Did you tried to launch it in the Impress - Menu: Slide show - Start from first slide?

The Impress documents can not "run" without the Impress aplication, but you can export the content into PDF format: in this case you must use a PDF reader to show the document.

Yes - nothing happens.

2. Press F5 - you should see Slide 1

But I need the slide show to run automatically in a continuous loop

If you need the slide show to loop, go to the menu Slide Show -> Slide Show Settings and in the Type area select Auto. Set the time to zero and the slide show will loop with no delay.
To get the slides to transition automatically within the presentation, go to Slide Show -> Slide Transition and set Advance Slide to Automatically and set the time to the value you want. Apply that to all of the slides.

Switch on the Sidebar. This function will be appeared on the Sidebar.
