Re: LibreOffice vs OpenOffice.org

Oracle is not continuing support of the open source projects it took over from Sun in the spirit of open source. From what I've read, they prefer Oracle employees to do the development and they prefer to control the code. To me, this means these projects will no longer be open source, but proprietar...

Re: Is it a background?

If you look closely at the template when you open it, you can see rounded corners inside the table cell borders; and you can verify that these will print by looking at Page Preview. This suggests they are drawing objects. Go to View>Toolbars to open your Drawing and Drawing Object Properties toolbar...

Re: Master document pagebreaks different from sub

Hi, jchafe! I've a 450 page document in about 7 chapters organized with a master document. I'm having problems with the page breaks changing between the master and the sub documents. The only place I've noticed this is near figures (usually just before the figure). Almost all my figures are located ...

Have you looked at http://www.portableapps.com foxcole? Hi, Mark. Yep, I ran a site-wide search that returned no results. Opening the search term to 'win tabber' I found one forum entry in the thread "What's on your portable#2?" :( The other portable apps site I use most frequently, http:...

Hello, oo2u. Please read the Survival Guide for the Forum, which I've linked to in my signature. It will help you understand that this is a user-to-user forum with specific rules about posting, but it also points out where and how to make suggestions such as yours. However, you're certainly free to ...

Re: Tabbed documents

Hmmm... I'd like to try it, but the new version apparently can't run as a portable app without some adjustments. (I extracted the files from the installer .exe using Universal Extractor, and ran wintabber.exe from there.) The previous versions, 0.2.232 and earlier, could run without installing anyth...

Re: Used to print list of styles...

Writer has this function build in (OOo 3.0.x anyway): see File > Templates > Organise. You can select a template or open a document using the “File…” button, then double click the entry of this file so that an entry “Styles” appears; select this entry and, from the “Commands” drop down, select “Pri...

Re: Automatically removing formatted text

At first glance, I have this comment: it's surprising that OpenOffice allows to perform style searches on several sorts of styles but not on character styles. I don't understand the reason for this. My styles are character styles; as far as I know, if they were any other sort of style, I couldn't a...

Used to print list of styles...

I'm having no luck searching for the answer to this silly little question! It was something I used to do a couple of years ago and I even documented it once or twice for someone else in another forum, but I just cannot find it. There is or used to be a way to print out a list of the paragraph style ...

Re: Automatically removing formatted text

What I want to do is automatically remove all of the text formatted in 15 out of these 20 formats. Are you saying you want to remove the formatting, or you want to delete the text that contains that formatting? Either way, if you're searching for paragraph, frame, or page formats you can use Find &...

Re: Incredibly Slow with Images in Document

It turns out it was the images. Most of the images were 300x300 pixel jpegs and the total file size of the document was just under 1MB. Why are images in documents so unstable in OO? Other word processors seem to handle images gracefully but instead of automatically resizing images or warning that ...

Re: List Box entries disappear in .DOC

Back when OOo 2.4.1 was developed, all Microsoft formats were deeply guarded secrets, so even the simplest text formatting was the result of guesswork and talented reverse engineering. Form fields have never been compatible between the two software applications, because of their exponentially higher...

Re: Getting Rid of extra page

The reason a paragraph is required with a table is that a table is a text property , not a standalone object. That's why you can't just click on a table and drag it around, any more than you can just click on a character and drag it around, except within the definition of a paragraph. Tables in MS W...

Re: Three pages gone after crash

I have seen the recovery process actually open two versions of the file I was working on, the previous version and the more current one. It brought the old version in focus, so I had to switch to the newer instance, save it, and when closing the old version, decline when it asked if I wanted to save...

Re: [Issue] Calc copies sheets on its own

For me, the problem appeared "random", but it's not. A sheet is duplicated when it's tab is selected AND the cursor moves, even very, very slightly. It appears that OO interprets imperceptibly small movements of the cursor (during tab selection) as a desire to create a duplicate sheet. It...

Just to be clear, do you mean header (top of the page, outside the normal text body) or heading (title paragraph style)? Either way, you can omit specific paragraph styles from line numbering. In the Stylist, right-click on the paragraph style and choose Modify. Click the Numbering tab, and de-selec...

Re: Randomly inserted page breaks driving me crazy

Word processors are unfortunately not designed for page layout, they're designed for content creation. For tight control of page layout, the word-processor-generated content would be imported into a page layout program such as FrameMaker or Scribus. That aside, we all realize that computer programs ...
