No - the numbers refer to the amount of compression of the image, from 0, none to 9, maximum amount. Obviously the more the file is compressed, the smaller it will be.2) my Q above is "are the words 'smallest' and 'largest' in the incorrect places? should they be reversed?

Re: Limited space in each document one create?
In computing a k is taken to be 1024 characters Unless you happen to be buying something; manufacturers seem to round the kilobyte and other sizes down. For instance, this from the Kingston website about USB drives: Megabyte (MB) = 1,000,000 bytes; 1 Gigabyte (GB) = 1,000,000,000 bytes; 1 Terabyte ...

Re: Limited space in each document one create?
It depends; are you using characters that may require more than one byte per character? Anyway, somewhere on the order of 64000. 64 Kb is of course 64 * 1024 (a Kilobyte).

Have you looked at [Troubleshooting] Spell check in OpenOffice? In particular see 3 Paragraph Style Settings - it may be that the language of the document doesn't match.

Well really there seems not much need for it in the forums I mentioned - they seem to me to be for information rather than problem solving.
The specific topic that floris v linked seems like it might better be placed elsewhere.

Re: Adding topic icons when editing a post seems to have been disabled
Seems to be the case for both the User Experience and Announcement forums that the Post Icons have been disabled - or not enabled - for both those forums. I tried several topics in each forum with the same result. I don't have karma to see that level of administration on the board; perhaps Hagar wil...

I've merged your questions as they are both the same problem; your "dates" are in fact stored as text and so are the "numbers" in your second post. You caa use Ctrl+F8 or View | Value Highlighting to confirm this. Text cells are formatted in black, formulae in green, and number c...

Re: Template Stopped Working
Okay so it isn't Windows being helpful; New file from Windows Explorer doesn't create a file based on AOO default template.
The only thing I can suggest is to double check that you still have the appropriate template set as default. Although it seems you have done this?

If your document opens with the ASCII Filter options, it is an indication that the file has been seriously corrupted, and most likely has no recoverable data. If you care to read the Wikipedia page Hagar referred to, you'll see that the Open Office trademark was around in 1999; the original Openoffice.org didn't appear until 2000, so there is no case the Open Office is impinging on Apache OpenOffice or any of the predecessors.
