Are you sure that the page is not configured with 3 columns?
The page must be 1 column and then you add a section with 3 columns.

It should be a setting of the default language through the AutoCorrect options.

If there is a page break between the 2 halves, then deleting the first half should not impact the second one. Except for page numbering but it can be fixed with the page style setting.
Try and tell us what remains to be fixed. Do that on a copy of your book of course.

You are talking about the PNG export, it is not a good format for a picture, especially if it comes from a jpg. All depends on your source picture.
