[Solved] Format error in sub-document content.xml

Post by Patch »

I have tried without fail to fix my error message having looked through the answers on the forum.
I am getting;
'format error discovered in the file sub continent context.xml at 2,4328 (row, col)
From what I've read I can attach a file and someone can fix the problem. Is this the case? I sincerely hope so as I am having no luck at all and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Patch

You can attach a file (see this tutorial for more help) and a helper may (probably will) look at it, and may be able to repair it.
There are no guarantees.

From the reported error message, it is highly likely that the damaged file can be fixed, but we have to have a copy of the original damaged file, not of a copy oversaved after a botched attempt to fix it.

division 5 - P edit 1 - 14.4.20.odt
This is the file that is receiving an error message. I received it as a Word document and have been editing it in that format. I no understand that I should have converted it to AOO to edit

Rory,
Wow that's amazing, thank you ever so much. My faith in AOO has been restored. What an amazing service. I will work on all my documents in AOO and convert them when I need to send.
I can't thank you enough

Turn off Track Changes if you are sending the document for review by another. Let that reviewer put their suggestions in a Comment (/Insert /Comment), or you are likely to have a recurrence of the problem.

Rory

I think this is far more likely to have been the bug in AOO where the error is introduced when the poster deleted two comments where each was attached to a range of text.

See Issue 128356 - Track Changes and Annotations on text range can cause corruption. Applies to 4.x (all versions?)

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

Solution depends on exactly what the internal problem is - the error message isn't indicative of the precise problem.

You may refer to [Tutorial] Format error discovered in sub-document for more information and additional links. If you are not confident to undertake the steps involved in repair, you may wish to upload your document here and someone may look at it.
