[Issue] Brackets in text for Endnotes

Post by andrey_zh »

Good afternoon!

I want to rationalize one thing related to endnotes. Say I need to format endnotes as follows: [1] both in text and at endnote page. It's quite easy to add braces to endnote numbers at endnote page.

But I'd also like to have braces automatically added to number in main text when inserting endnote. Is it possibly to do such a thing?

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Does it help: [Solved] Bibliography questions?

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

The thing I want is mush more simple.

Have a look at the screenshot.

Braces in text are typed manually. I simply want to make braces a part of an anchor and insert them automatically when inserting an endnote.

I see. I don't recall any workaround for that, sorry.

You can define an Autotext with the superscript-formatted brackets and the footnote anchor. Inserting the AT will give you a new footnote number, in brackets. The note inserted will have the text from the note the AT was defined with; you'll have to manually go and edit the note text.

It's not really practical to use the AT shortcut/F3 in this situation, but you can record a macro: Edit > Autotext > (Select your footnote AT) > Insert, and then assign a shortcut key to that macro.

Of course the downside is that the brackets are literal text, so it won't be easy to change them, should the need arise.

BTW, there is a request to add this feature: Issue 90842: Permit to set a footnote anchor prefix/suffix (in the text area)
You can register there and add your vote (up to two) or comment.
