[Solved] Spell Check is reversed
[Solved] Spell Check is reversed
All correctly spelled words show as misspelled and misspelled words show as spelled correctly. Just started happening yesterday and only in OpenOffice modules.

Re: Spell Check is reversed
Check through the settings as set out in
[Tutorial] Spell check and Language configuration
It is probably some simple setting which has been tweaked/untweaked.

Thanks, Rory, but everything looks OK and I still have the problem.

Re: Spell Check is reversed
Position your cursor in a red underlined word and note the language indicated in the status bar (screen bottom). Then do the same for the correct word and again note the language. If these languages differ, that gives a clue to what may be wrong.

Does this happen with all documents or only new documents?

Re: Spell Check is reversed
Thanks, both of you. Both correct and incorrect words show English (USA). Bill, it happens on all documents within OO. Maybe my dictionary/spellchecker got corrupted? I'm using the default Hunspell. No problems with email or browser spell checking.

Re: Spell Check is reversed
I doubt that the dictionary is corrupt. Unset all the Language options (note them down). Then restart OpenOffice, and reset them. Sometimes, in OpenOffice, settings appear to be set and are not; it can need their settings to be cycled off/on for then to take/retake.

Re: Spell Check is reversed
Do you have any extra unused dictionaries installed? This is sometimes the case when upgrading from older OpenOffice.org versions. These can sometimes cause problems with SpellCheck. A clean install of AOO 3.4.1 (EN-US) will have only the English spelling and hyphenation dictionaries and thesaurus 2010.03.16 installed. Select Tools > Extension Manager to see what dictionaries are installed. Any that you don't need should be removed.

Re: Spell Check is reversed
Thanks, everyone, for your help. I give up. I've attempted to resolve this per your instructions but items are grayed out or I'm unable to find what you're telling me to do. As far as I can tell I only have 3 dictionaries installed but unable to remove any of them. My guess is it's been this way for years. I've been an OO user and promoter for 4-5 years now. I stymied with this. Very sad. Perhaps I'll just remove it and re-install.

Try resetting the user profile http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/vi ... 74&t=12426.

Re: Spell Check is reversed
If the problem is with user settings, as is almost certain, no amount of un/re-installing will touch those, as they are preserved from install to install to keep customisation such as dictionaries and macros for professional users. You must reset the user profile as thomasjk indicates. This cures many peculiar happenings in OpenOffice.

Re: Spell Check is reversed
Moocho thanks! That fixed it. You were right, re-installing did not fix it, but resetting the User Profile did.
I will be visiting this forum more frequently - there is a lot of good information here AND very helpful people.
Thanks again.
