[Solved] document locked by another user

Post by redleg142 »

I opened an Open Office document on my Dell laptop on Windows 7 and tried to edit it; however, it has somehow become locked by another user. This seems impossible as there are NO other users of this laptop and it is not networked with another computer. I have tried the Alt + spacebar and Tab +Alt to no avail. Any ides om how to unlock this document?

Close OpenOffice. Then enable your computer to see hidden files and delete any file with a name such as

Code: Select all

.~lock.Filename.odt#
where Filename is replaced by your correct filename.

Now restart OpenOffice and the file should open.

Beware: The above file should be only a few hundred bytes in size. If it is larger, you haven't found the lock file, but the original file. The lock file may have occurred because of the way the file was transferred to the computer, or because you had an earlier program/system crash.

SOLVED!
Thanks. I did close the computer after e-mailing you and it did solve the problem.
