[Solved] Move single point with keyboard

Post by ihtus »

Consider a polygon, which has points. How can I move an individual point, with arrow keys of the keyboard, but not with mouse?

I tried to select a single point and to move it by pressing arrow key, but the whole polygon is moving.

Re: Draw - move single point with keyboard

Post by acknak »

Greetings and welcome to the community forum!

Sorry, it's not possible.

This question has come up here before; I thought there must be an open enhancement request for it. As I checked just now, I see that there was an issue open, but it seems to have been closed by someone who did not understand the problem. So now there is no open issue for it.

I suggest submitting a new request for enhancement: [Tutorial] Reporting bugs or suggestions
 Edit: PS:
Here's the old issue: Issue 64873: Points not movable via keys after mouse selection

It IS possible, but not easy to find.

1- Select the polygon
2- If not enabled, press F8 to enable the "edit point mode"
3- Press Ctrl-TAB: you'll see one of the points selected (the first one considering the order on which the polygon was created).
4- Press Ctrl-TAB again and again until you reach the point you want to move
5- Now use the arrow keys: only the selected point will move

It works on AOO 4.0

Wow. Just wow. How did anyone ever find that?

Well, that's just amazing. Huge win to find out that it's possible, even if the interface is incredibly awful

Thanks for passing that along, RGB!
 Edit: PS:
Extra points: it works with the Bezier handles as well! Very, very handy!

I did not find yet how to activate the handlers once the point is selected (I mean, other that a click over it), but once the handlers are active, you have everything on the keyboard ;)

RGB: thank you very much, this makes a lot easier to manage polygons.

Edit:
I just found this shortcut list that states about CTRL+TAB and arrow moving - link

As I understand, it's not possible to move the built-in glue points at all.

If you add your own glue points, they can be moved--possibly by the keyboard; I haven't tried it myself.

acknak: I meant the custom added glue points, not the built in. Thanks.

do I need to create a new separate topic about moving the glue points?

Better to start a new topic, I expect.
